Esteemed friends and colleagues,
welcome to the fourth edition of our International Documentary Festival on art, architecture, cinema, education, theater, music and dance. Having sailed past the decisive trial of our third edition with flying colors, we now find ourselves in front of two options. One would be consolidating our Festival in its home venue of Palazzo Venezia, where we could comfortable reap the benefits of our past efforts; the second, to aim our efforts elsewhere, engaging in a new challenge. We chose the second.
In this coming edition of our Festival, the city of Milan will be host to the brand new, and quite radically and dangerously evolved Doc Fest, becoming the Milano Doc Festival (or Mi Doc for short).
We are thus starting anew in a city which juxtaposes its impenetrable, mysterious fogs to our sweet Roman sunsets, replaces baroque domes with skyscrapers and chimneys, and plunges us from an easy-going dolce vita into its bustling metropolitan life.
And it is this very reality that has inspired us to undertake this new challenge, a new adventure: indeed, beside our ‘traditional’ contest categories, which are still the main sections in this festival, you will now find new spaces dedicated to the industrial documentary on workmanship and entrepreneurship, as well as on advertising.
We will not be alone in this venture: our most valuable partner is surely the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, a great national film archive, not to mention a historical film school which to this day remains the standard for education in filmmaking.
The Centro has also just recently opened a branch in Milan, with specific documentary-making courses. It is here that we will make our command center for the Festival, together with the surrounding city, together with its city hall and its Mayor, collaborating to making this endeavor a positive one, fulfilling our responsibilities towards this cultural exhibition.
Milan wants and can turn into the European capital for cultural documentaries, not only those which speak about art and music, but also about industry, marketing and publicity. We feel our experience in the art documentary field is called to this very purpose, and will contribute to creating the most unique and precious event of cultural exchange.
