With remarkable success and a deeply moving atmosphere, the tribute to renowned filmmaker Dimos Avdeliodis was completed as part of the 14th Athens International Digital Film Festival – AIDFF. Faithful to its mission of promoting art and humanism through cinema, the Festival continues to highlight creators who have left an enduring mark on both Greek and international cultural life.
During this year’s edition, Dimos Avdeliodis was honored for his lifetime contribution and his significant impact on artistic creation. The honorary
award was presented by internationally acclaimed filmmaker Yannis Smaragdis, offering a moment of profound recognition and emotion for both the honoree and the audience that filled the venue.
The event culminated with the screening of the multi-award-winning film “The Tree We Hurt” (1986), shown in a newly edited Director’s Cut version with a duration of 65 minutes. The screening took place on Wednesday, 10 December at Studio New Star Art Cinema, greeted with warm and enthusiastic applause.
A tribute to the creator and the human spirit
Through this tribute, AIDFF celebrated the multifaceted work and invaluable contribution of Dimos Avdeliodis to art and culture. A creator whose cinematic journey is deeply intertwined with spirituality, poetic expression, and the essence of Greek identity, Avdeliodis was once again acknowledged as one of the most distinctive voices of contemporary Greek cinema.
The Festival continues its vision, shedding light on creators whose work and ethos inspire and enrich the country’s cultural heritage.
