{mosimage}We thought it’s time to make our call to inform you that the 5th  biennial edition of Wildlife Vaasa Festival will be organized again here at the  Ostrobothnian museum and Terranova Nature Centre in Vaasa in November 2010 (Wed.17th –Sun21st) 


Therefore, you are most welcome to participate again with your new productions. Entry rules and form is attached to this message.Finally, we wish you best of success with your current and future film projects and we look forward to receive your programs. Although deadline for entries is set  to October 1st  2010  we recommend: “the sooner-the better”

The Wildlife Vaasa International Nature Film Festival located on the West Coast of Finland is held Bi-annually. Since its conception in 2002, it has grown in stature receiving commendation from participants, delegates, media and the public world-wide. In 2008, Terranova International Nature Film Festival received some 265 films from 49 countries with 78 delegates from 15 countries in attendance. In addition, representatives from international and National television were present eager to purchase the latest productions for broadcast. Successful implementation of previous festivals has broadened its network and co-operation areas worldwide. This has also resulted positive developments on a local and regional scale with the establishment of the Regional Film Centre, which specialises in Natural History Filmmaking and with the publishing on the internet of the festival’s International Nature Films Database: www.naturefilmnet.fi

•    International Nature Film Competition
With the aim to arouse the public's awareness, as well as to participate in a global dialogue,    Wildlife Vaasa 2010 encourages submission of recent films (2008 and later) that present aspects of the critical environmental issues we are facing at the break of the 21st century. The festival specially wishes for films focusing on climate change and renewable energy issues.

•    Children & Youth Nature Film Competition & Educational Activities
Wildlife Vaasa 2010 will organize for a fourth time nature film competition of films made by Children and Youth. The educational film competition as an important part of the festival’s media education project initiative will be organized in a similar way with previous times and it will have again an international approach. One of our festival’s educational objectives is to bring nature films at schools introducing them as effective educational tools. That will incorporate nature film exhibitions at schools in the target region as well as film making workshops and media education seminars.

GENERAL RULES OF ENTRY

Who can enter?
Film companies, TV companies, production companies, independent producers, filmmakers, festivals, TV- broadcasters and journalists, newcomers and established professionals are all welcome to participate in Wildlife Vaasa 2010 festival.

Entry fees?
No entry fees or delegate fees are required for Wildlife Vaasa festival 2008.

Which Programmes Qualify?
Entries produced after January 2008 may qualify: These productions must include a nature theme in their content. Interaction between human and nature including scientific films as well as animation films are also welcome to participate.

Production/Commission
Entries must have been produced, co-produced or commissioned by the submitting organisation.

Language
Although, all languages are accepted at Wildlife Vaasa 2010, however, non-English productions must either be subtitled, dubbed or accompanied by an English script. Films nominated as finalists must be subtitled or provided with an English language version (subtitles or English narration) with an exception to Finnish and Nordic productions who can be submitted in Finnish or Swedish in their own categories.

Synopsis
A production synopsis for each program submitted is required (100 words maximum). The festival organisers reserve the right to edit these synopses.

Award Category
Participants may like to indicate the award category for which he/she would like the programme to be considered. However, it is up to the festival Juries to decide for which award category(s) the entry might qualify.

Format - Film/Video
Each entry must be accompanied with a DVD-R preview copy which is non-returnable.
Finalists and Special award nominees will be required to submit one more DVD- show copy of their qualified program

Sponsorship/Advertising
While sponsorship may be acknowledged, deliberate advertising is not permitted.

The award-winner
If a production company wins an award it is up to the company to determine who will be the recipient.

Copyright
Submitting to Wildlife Vaasa 2010 you are simultaneously agreed to:
PERMIT entries to be shown in our venues in conjunction with the festival, without any charge to the festival organizers.
PERMIT the closed circuit playback of entries for delegates, potential buyers, journalists, experts or other persons welcomed by the festival; All entries shall  be available for free viewing at the festival’s video library.
PERMIT the festival to keep a DVD copy of each programme for archive and educational non-profit purposes at Terranova Nature Centre and for screenings at schools during the school-screening period.
PERMIT the festival to include the program into its Nature Film Database at http://www.naturefilmnet.fi/

Please inform the festival if you permit the use of a max. 5 min excerpt of the qualified programs for promotion and TV -broadcasting purposes.

Ο Χρήστος Ν. Καρακάσης Γεννήθηκε στην Αθήνα. Σπούδασε Μουσική, Πληροφορική και Σκηνοθεσία Θεάτρου, Κινηματογράφου, Τηλεόρασης στην Ελλάδα και στο Πανεπιστήμιο της Νέας Υόρκης NYU Tisch School of the Arts. Κατέχει μεταπτυχιακό τίτλο πάνω στην ανάπτυξη και την μεθοδολογία της εκπαίδευσης (Post graduate diploma in training and development) και μεταπτυχιακό τίτλο στην σκηνοθεσία κινηματογράφου και θεάτρου Post graduate diploma in film and theatre direction. Έχει επιμεληθεί οπτικοακουστικά καλλιτεχνικά, οργανωτικά και σε τεχνικό επίπεδο πολλές εκδηλώσεις παρουσιάσεις, διαφημίσεις, Video art, Φεστιβάλ.Ως Σκηνοθέτης-Συγγραφέας-Παραγωγός έχει παρουσία από το 1992. Οι ταινίες του έχουν αποσπάσει διεθνείς βραβεύσεις και έχουν προβληθεί στην Ελλάδα και το Εξωτερικό. Ιδρυτής των εκδόσεων κουίντα και της κινηματογραφικής εταιρείας ΚΟΥΙΝΤΑ Production . Καθηγητής Κινηματογράφου σε πολλές σχολές και ιδρύματα.Από το 2011 είναι Καλλιτεχνικός Διευθυντής του Διεθνούς Φεστιβάλ Ψηφιακού Κινηματογράφου Αθήνας AIDFF και καλλιτεχνικός διευθυντής στο διεθνές οικολογικό και επιστημονικό πανόραμα της ΚΟΥΙΝΤΑ.Έχει γράψει την «εισαγωγή στον κινηματογράφο» βιβλίο το οποίο απευθύνεται σε επίδοξους σκηνοθέτες, αλλά και σε όλους εκείνους που θέλουν να γνωρίσουν με άμεσο και περιεκτικό τρόπο την τέχνη αλλά και την τεχνική του κινηματογράφου.
